South Korea's Inbee Park shot a final-round 71 to became the youngest ever winner of the US Women's Open – as RBS ambassador Paula Creamer missed her best chance of breaking her Majors drought.
Nineteen-year-old Park finished on a nine-under 283 to win by four strokes from Sweden's Helen Alfredsson at the Interlachen Country Club in Minnesota. She was the only player to break par in every round to secure her first win on the LPGA Tour.
"I am very honoured to win this championship – this is very, very special to me," she said. "I will never forget this moment."
Less thrilled was Paula, who was just two shots off the pace in second place after the third round. However, she took two double bogeys on the front nine of her final round for a closing 78 and a tie for sixth.
"It's probably the most disappointed I've been in a very long time," she said.
Nevertheless, sixth place was still a career-best for the 21-year-old, who has won six times on the LPGA Tour but had previously not finished better than 13th in five US Open attempts.
"A lot of things were wrong out there, but you learn from these. Just honestly it was not my day. Inbee played awesome. She really did, two-under-par today, that's a heck of a round out there.
"I can tell you that it definitely has motivated me more."
