It was a huge disappointment for the Englishman, who had gone into the tournament brimming with confidence, but finished 46th.
"I made too many mistakes and that was frustrating," said Luke, who birdied two of the first three holes.
He'll now attempt to bounce back over the summer. And although the remaining Majors at Torrey Pines, Royal Birkdale and Oakland Hills will no doubt loom large in his thoughts, he has another target in mind.
"You concentrate on each tournament as you go through the year, but the Ryder Cup is constantly at the back of your mind," said Luke in his exclusive Masters blog.
"My two appearances in the Ryder Cup were some of the best experiences I've ever had on the golf course and I definitely want to be there at Valhalla in Kentucky in September, and be part of history by retaining the Cup again."
Meanwhile, Trevor Immelman described winning the Masters as not just a dream come true, but also "the craziest thing I've ever heard of".
Immelman beat Tiger Woods by three shots at Augusta National a week after he missed the cut in Houston. "Obviously it hasn't quite sunk in yet," said the champion. "This has probably been the ultimate rollercoaster ride – and I hate rollercoasters."
He also thanked Gary Player, until now the only South African winner of a green jacket, for his message of support before the tournament got under way.
"I took that all to heart, I'm obviously thankful and I'm sure he's proud of me," added Immelman.
I first met him when I was five years old. He picked me up and put me on his shoulders. I think he realised that even at a young age I had so much passion for the game.
"He's been like another type of father for me, and to have somebody with that much experience on your side giving you advice is just incredible."
