Hodgson and Booth steal headlines in title repeat

Stiggy Hodgson and Carly Booth retained their titles at the RBS-supported Daily Telegraph Junior Golf Championships in Abu Dhabi.
However, their routes to victory could hardly have been different. Hodgson needed a dramatic play-off to defeat Tommy Fleetwood in the boys' event, while Booth swept to a six-stroke victory.
Hodgson, from the Sunningdale club, holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the second sudden-death hole - then turned to hug his rival. "It was mentally so draining," said the 18-year-old as he held back the tears. "We were at each other all day long. I have never wanted to win a tournament so badly as this."
In contrast, Booth (16) was seldom threatened on her way to the title, posting the best score of each of the three rounds to finish six shots ahead of 15 year-old Alex Peters.
The Daily Telegraph Junior Championships attracted 41,830 entrants who took part in 1000 local qualifying events around the country. The 21 top players then travelled to the world-class course at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club for the finals.
