Sir Jackie's view – Bahrain Grand Prix

RBS ambassador Sir Jackie Stewart described how a perfect start by Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen in Bahrain gave Ferrari the perfect finish.

"Without a point in this year's Championship after retiring in the first two races, Felipe Massa was under pressure before the race in Bahrain.

But a Formula One driver knows how to deal with that kind of pressure and I think it was just normal procedure for him at Sakhir.

Massa can be slightly 'peak and valley', and occasionally there are errors. But when he's good he's very good – I have a very high regard for his driving.

In Bahrain, he drove a beautiful race. Indeed, it was an excellent weekend for Ferrari – couldn't have been better.

It was also a good weekend for the BMW Sauber, with Robert Kubica getting pole position and finishing third, and Nick Heidfeld fourth.

It was pretty good for Toyota; not bad for Williams. And a very bad weekend for McLaren.

From the point of view of mental strength and mind management, Raikkonen is pretty good, pretty solid. Also Massa, when he's 'on', is pretty unbeatable. And their car, of course, is very good. This is a strong year for Ferrari.

For me, the defining moment of the race was both of the Ferraris making such a good start. It was a pretty impressive start by both the cars, and that set the tone for the rest of the race.

Despite Massa's win, Raikkonen is probably the strongest driver out there right now. And he's got a lot of experience. As, of course, does Heidfeld, who hasn't had the car yet. Whereas both of the McLaren drivers are still young.

There will be a lot of talk about the Alonso-Hamilton crash, but I can't judge it without seeing the telemetry or hearing the team radio. It could have been a brake-test by Alonso… I simply don't know."
